Clean the upper or lower lingual holding arch appliance every day with toothpaste and a soft toothbrush, morning and night. Encourage the patient to give sufficient time to clean thoroughly around the appliance, gums, teeth, and bands to maintain proper hygiene and prevent inflammation. 3 minutes is recommended.
Robert Goshgarian is credited with inventing the lower lingual arch (LLHA) The Lower Lingual Holding Arch was a simple way to maintain the lower arch’s dental alignment after tooth loss or during growth. Its function is to hold the lower molars in place while permanent teeth erupt. This appliance has evolved with more advanced wire technology, but the basic design remains largely unchanged.
