Habit Breaking Appliances

This appliance is used for heavy tongue thrusters or thumb habits. It acts as a deterrent to help break habits while keeping the palate exposed for the tongue to contact increasing the success of breaking the habit.

This fixed appliance is used for patients struggling to break a thumb-sucking habit. It is fabricated horizontally to prevent the seal of the thumb from engaging with the roof of the palate. It is recommended that occlusal rests for premolars are laser welded to maintain the stability of the appliance against the forces of the thumb or tongue.

This appliance is very effective for young patients who struggle with a tongue or thumb habit. It acts by disrupting the behavior or the thumb or tongue but provides an alternative to the behavior helping to break the habit. The bluegrass component itself is a Teflon roller and is recommended over beads or other smaller alternatives that can break and be swallowed.

This fixed appliance creates a barrier for the tongue to prevent anterior flaring and help with proper habit forming. The fence is built vertically and can also be used for those patients with thumb habits.
