Originally developed by Dr. Neil Warshawsky in Chicago, thus representing the “bean part of the name” and eventually shortened to just “Casper”. Casper Appliances are functional devices that encourage natural jaw growth and development much like a Mara or a Herbst appliance with a lot less parts. These appliances emerged as part of a wave of functional orthodontics in the 1970s aimed at correcting Class II malocclusions by guiding jaw development.The Casper is a new iteration developed in the late 2010’s. They continue to be used in growing patients for non-invasive orthodontic treatments.
