The Spring Aligner Appliance with Lingual Extensions is a modified version of the traditional spring aligner clip, incorporating .036 lingual extensions to enhance retention and stability. For this appliance, we first create a digital version of the patient’s dentition and utilize CAD software to strategically move the teeth into their ideal position. This process ensures accurate corrections tailored to each individual’s needs. Once the optimal alignment is achieved, we 3D print the spring aligner model, resulting in a custom appliance that provides excellent results in repositioning the anterior teeth. This innovative approach not only improves retention but also ensures a comfortable fit for the patient, making it an effective solution for targeted orthodontic adjustments.

Materials, Treatment Information, and Comparison with Conventional Spring Hawley Retainer

Aligner details:

  • 3D Model for setup: EnvsionTEC or Objet

Four-week appointment intervals are recommended. At each appointment, the spring aligner fit should be evaluated and orthodontic correction monitored. Interproximal reduction, as well as appliance adjustment, may be necessary. Patients should wear the spring aligner 22 hours a day and clean daily with toothpaste to prevent the buildup of plaque and odor on the aligner. Avoid efferdent and other effervescent solutions, as it may erode components on the appliance.  It is recommended to use products like DentaSoak or Retainer Splash.

Whereas the standard spring Hawley retainer possesses a large acrylic arch plate which clings to the top of the mouth, our spring aligners do away with the retainer arch and instead cling to the teeth. This results in less intrusion and more comfort for your patient, while still maintaining the ability of the lower spring aligner to reset anterior teeth.
