Leaf Spring Activated Expander

The Leaf Spring Activated Expander from Leone is an evolution in design from the spring-loaded expander, designed with the technical and scientific collaboration of Dr. Claudio Lanteri and Mr. Filippo Francolini. Its small size body and two Nickel Titanium Memoria® leaf springs allow the release of calibrated and continuous forces to promote the dental expansion of the maxillary arch. Re-loading is needed when the two opposing leaf springs move apart. The intraoral activation will put the springs in contact again. Available in both 6 and 9mm of expansion and 450 grams and 900 grams of force. With each expansion appliance, we provide a custom swivel key that has an integrated activation recording tool directly on the handle.

Additional Options, Materials & Treatment Information

The Leaf RPE will be pre-activated upon arrival being held closed by a ligature wire. After insertion, clip the ligature wire to activate the appliance. The deactivated leaf springs will show the past expansion.

  • 6mm Screw
    • Appointment 1: Cementation and initial activation by cutting ligature wire
    • Appointment 2: (Scheduled 6 weeks after insert) – 10 activation turns
    • Appointment 3: (Scheduled 4 weeks after the second appointment)  – 10 activation turns
    • Appointment 4: (Scheduled 4 weeks after the third appointment)  – 10 activation turns

    9mm Screw

    • Appointment 1: Cementation and initial activation by cutting ligature wire
    • Appointment 2: (Scheduled 8 weeks after insert) – 15 activation turns
    • Appointment 3: (Scheduled 6 weeks after the second appointment)  – 15 activation turns
    • Appointment 4: (Scheduled 6 weeks after the third appointment)  – 15 activation turns

    This appliance should be cleaned every day with toothpaste and a soft toothbrush, morning and night. Encourage the patient to give sufficient time to clean thoroughly around the appliance, gums, teeth, and bands to maintain proper hygiene and prevent inflammation. 3 minutes is recommended.
