There are two ways to activate the Frozat before placing it in the mouth. Ricketts et al. (1979) originally suggested that operators activate the appliance with three-pronged pliers to incorporate expansion and molar-rotating force. Another method proposed by Kholoki (1995) employs an arch form chosen from a pentamorphic chart that serves as a pattern for regulating the Frozat.
This appliance should be cleaned every day with toothpaste and a soft toothbrush, morning and night. Encourage the patient to give sufficient time to clean thoroughly around the appliance, gums, teeth, and bands to maintain proper hygiene and prevent inflammation. 3 minutes is recommended.
Dr. George B. Crozat of New Orleans invented the Crozat appliance in the 1920s. The Crozat appliance is a removable, precious-metal device that’s used to correct malocclusions and dentofacial deformities. The Frozat Lower W-Arch was developed as a specialized version of the W-Arch for lower arch expansion. This design, originating in the late 20th century, allows for controlled expansion of the lower dental arch in cases where both upper and lower arches need expansion or when addressing crowding in the mandibular teeth.
