3 Way Appliance

The 3-way screw is used to widen and well and lengthen the arch. The anterior section will drive forces forward using the incisors. Alternatively, we can incorporate three individual screws, one to widen and two following the sagittal plane to distalize the posterior section. As with any expansion appliance, we recommend maximum retention with Adams clasps on the 6’s (if erupted) and ball clasps between the pre-molars. You can also incorporate a labial bow to control the anterior incisors and a posterior bite plate to disarticulate the arches providing additional anchorage for the upper appliance.

  • Screw: Leone 3-way Expansion Screw
  • Activation of the screw is 1-2 times per week.Patients should wear 22 hours a day and clean daily with toothpaste to prevent the buildup of plaque and odor. Avoid Efferdent and other effervescent solutions, as it may erode components on the appliance. It is recommended to use products like DentaSoak
    or Retainer Splash.
