MARPE Appliances (Airway)

TAD (Temporary Anchorage Device) appliances are innovative orthodontic solutions designed for maxillary expansion and airway improvement. They provide a non-surgical method to widen the maxilla by applying direct force with mini-screws (TADs). These devices are highly customizable to fit the unique anatomical and biomechanical needs of each patient, ensuring optimal outcomes in expansion and distalization.

  • Innovative Non-Surgical Expansion: Utilizes mini-screws for maxillary expansion without surgery, optimizing treatment for airway improvement.
  • Customized to Practice Needs: Tailored based on the TAD driver kit, mini-screw diameter, and patient anatomy, offering flexibility and precision.
  • Enhanced Anchoring Options: Can be integrated into distalizing appliances like the Haas appliance to enhance anchorage, providing multifunctional use in complex cases.

FAQ

We’re here to answer all of your questions

What makes TAD appliances effective for maxillary expansion and airway improvement?
TAD appliances utilize mini-screws to apply direct force, allowing precise and controlled expansion of the maxilla without surgical intervention. This not only improves dental alignment but also enhances airway function, particularly in patients with constricted upper jaws.
How does your practice work with us to ensure proper TAD placement?
We require case approval via EasyRx, where a digital mockup is shared before fabrication to ensure accuracy. Our team provides training on optimal TAD placement, and we accept CBCT and X-ray overlays on STL files within our customized software for precise positioning.
Can TAD appliances be integrated with other orthodontic devices?
Yes, TAD appliances can be incorporated into various orthodontic devices, such as Haas appliances, to provide additional anchorage for distalizing teeth or expanding the arch, enhancing the versatility and effectiveness of treatment.
What customization options are available for TAD appliances?
TAD appliances can be customized based on the diameter of the mini-screw eyelets to match the TAD driver kit your practice uses. This prevents the need for purchasing new driver systems, offering a cost-effective and seamless integration into your current practice setup.
How do we ensure the TAD appliances are positioned correctly?
Our process includes a thorough digital mockup and approval system through EasyRx, ensuring precise positioning tailored to each patient’s anatomical needs. Additionally, we utilize CBCT imaging to overlay with STL files for enhanced accuracy in placement.
What are the clinical benefits of using TAD appliances in orthodontic treatment?
TAD appliances provide absolute anchorage, critical for complex orthodontic movements like maxillary expansion and distalization. Their versatility allows for both direct and indirect anchorage biomechanics, enhancing treatment outcomes and reducing the need for invasive procedures.
What are the primary advantages of using miniscrews (TADs) for orthodontic anchorage?
Miniscrews offer absolute anchorage, providing a stable point from which to apply orthodontic forces without relying on other teeth. This allows for precise movements, reduces unwanted shifts, and can minimize the need for extractions or other invasive procedures.
How has the use of TADs evolved in orthodontic practice?
Initially considered a niche technology, TADs have become mainstream due to their versatility and effectiveness. As orthodontists have gained experience, the approach to miniscrew placement has become more evidence-based, focusing on optimal biomechanics and patient-specific anatomical considerations.
What imaging techniques are recommended for accurate TAD placement?
Cone-Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) is highly recommended for TAD placement, especially in areas with significant anatomical variations. CBCT provides detailed information on bone thickness, root proximity, and ideal implant sites, ensuring safer and more effective placement.
What are the differences between direct and indirect anchorage when using TADs?
Direct anchorage involves applying force directly from the TAD to the tooth or teeth being moved, which is simpler but can create unwanted force vectors. Indirect anchorage stabilizes a group of teeth against the TAD, allowing for more controlled movement and reducing the risk of unexpected shifts.
What considerations should be made regarding miniscrew placement in different anatomical sites?
The success of miniscrew placement depends on site-specific factors, such as cortical bone thickness and root proximity. For example, placement in areas with thicker cortical bone may require predrilling, while sites like the infrazygomatic crest might necessitate CBCT imaging to avoid sinus perforation. Choosing the correct site based on patient anatomy is crucial for minimizing risks and optimizing outcomes.
What Tad sizes do you supply?
We can supply anywhere from 11mm all the way up to 17mm depending on your clinical goals. We will measure the tads for the current length if photography or scans are sent.
