Frank M. Casto: The Pioneer of Orthodontics
Born in 1875, Frank M. Casto laid the foundation for our family’s legacy in orthodontics. Graduating from the second class of Edward Angle’s Orthodontic School in 1902, Frank wore many hats: an MD, a pharmacist, a dentist, and even a commander in the US Navy. He was the President of both the American Association of Orthodontists (1909) and the American Dental Association (1935). His pioneering spirit set the stage for generations to come.

Laurence C. Wright: A Life of Service and Dedication
Following his grandfather Frank’s footsteps, Laurence “Larry” C. Wright devoted his life to orthodontics, with a particular passion for helping children born with cleft palates. Growing up under Frank’s guidance after his father’s departure, Larry had a transformative journey. His devotion led to the establishment of the Laurence C. Wright Craniofacial Center at Oishei Children’s Hospital, dedicated to treating craniofacial anomalies with compassion and skill.

Jim Wright: The Unexpected Founder of ODL
Jim Wright, Larry’s son, didn’t take the conventional route. Originally an auto mechanic, Jim’s hands-on skills translated surprisingly well to orthodontic appliance creation. In 1984, encouraged by Larry, Jim founded ODL in the basement of his father’s practice. With an eye for detail and a drive for excellence, Jim built ODL from the ground up, transforming it into a leading orthodontic lab known for its craftsmanship and commitment to quality.

The Next Generation: Mike, Tom, and Brendan Take the Helm.
By 2017, Jim Wright knew it was time to pass the torch. His sons, Mike and Tom, along with his son-in-law Brendan, were ready to lead ODL into its next era. With a focus on growth and innovation, the trio has expanded the business tenfold, while remaining true to the values of hard work, faith, and constant improvement that Jim and the generations before him championed. The future is bright for ODL!
