TPA (Transpalatal Arch)

The Transpalatal Arch (TPA) Appliance is designed to stabilize the position of the molars following orthodontic treatment. It functions as an anchorage device, featuring laser-welded eyelets that can be used to assist in the eruption of impacted incisors. Additionally, the TPA can be employed in conjunction with Temporary Anchorage Devices (TADs) to facilitate the intrusion of molars. This versatility makes the TPA a valuable tool in comprehensive orthodontic care, ensuring optimal alignment and positioning of teeth.

More About TPA (Transpalatal Arch)

Also Known As:
Transpalatal bar, TPA appliance
Who Made Me:

Introduced by Robert A. Goshgarian of Waukegan, Illinois, in 1972, it has been an integral component of fixed appliance therapy since then. The transpalatal arch (TPA) is fabricated from a chromium cobalt wire that spans the palate and connects bands on both maxillary first permanent molars. This simple but effective design consists of a wire running across the palate, attached to the molars, helping to maintain arch width or provide light expansion. It remains a widely used appliance due to its simplicity and versatility.
