Treatment & Care

This appliance should be cleaned every day with toothpaste and a soft toothbrush, morning and night. Encourage the patient to give sufficient time to clean thoroughly around the appliance, gums, teeth, and bands to maintain proper hygiene and prevent inflammation. 3 minutes is recommended.

The transpalatal arch (TPA) is fabricated from a chromium cobalt wire that spans the palate and connects bands on both maxillary first permanent molars. This simple but effective design consists of a wire running across the palate, attached to the molars, helping to maintain arch width or provide light expansion. It remains a widely used appliance due to its simplicity and versatility.
