Dr. Andrew Haas, an orthodontist from the United States, developed the Haas Expander in the 1950s. His innovation involved a midline screw to apply transverse force, promoting maxillary expansion. Haas’s work in this area laid the foundation for modern palatal expansion techniques, and his design remains one of the most commonly used appliances for skeletal expansion. Today, the Haas Expander continues to be a popular choice in orthodontics for patients needing rapid palatal expansion.
