Name the 5 from our product page
A nightguard and a splint are both dental appliances used to address specific oral conditions, but they serve different primary purposes and are designed differently. Here's a breakdown of the differences:
Primary Purpose:
- Nightguard: Primarily designed to protect the teeth from the effects of bruxism (teeth grinding) and clenching during sleep. It acts as a cushion between the upper and lower teeth, preventing them from grinding against each other.
- Splint: Often used to treat temporomandibular joint disorders (TMD or TMJ). It helps to reposition the jaw, reduce joint pain, and ensure a proper bite alignment. Splints can also be used to protect teeth, similar to nightguards, but their primary design is for jaw alignment and pain relief.
We do! While nightguards and splints can sometimes be interchangble in name, our splints are usually a more technical and require proper articulation to fix the disorder at hand. Where a nightguard could be just be stopping a patient from grindning their teeth at night resulting in a simpler, flat plane design.
